Microsoft also warns that malicious pop-ups may use warnings, prizes, or free-download offers as phishing tactics.
Chrome: block website notifications
Google documents this desktop path:
- Open More, then Settings.
- Select Privacy and security > Site Settings > Notifications.
- Next to Not allowed to send notifications, select Add.
- Enter the site's address and select Add.
Chrome also automatically blocks notifications from sites with intrusive or misleading notifications. See Use notifications to get alerts.
Edge: block website notifications
Microsoft documents two ways to block notifications from an individual site.
From Edge settings:
- Open Settings and more > Settings.
- Select Privacy, search, and services > Site permissions > All sites.
- Select the website.
- Set Notifications to Block.
While visiting the site, select View site information beside the address bar, then choose Permissions for this site > Notifications > Block. See Manage website notifications in Microsoft Edge.
Edge: block pop-ups and check extensions
Edge's pop-up control is under Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Site permissions > All permissions > Pop-ups and redirects. Turn on Blocked (recommended).
If pop-ups continue, Microsoft recommends turning off every extension and then enabling them one at a time to identify an extension causing the issue. See Block pop-ups in Microsoft Edge.
Firefox: revoke or block notification permission
Firefox Web Push is opt-in: a site cannot send push notifications without permission. Mozilla documents this path:
- Open Settings.
- Select Privacy & Security.
- Scroll to Permissions.
- Beside Notifications, select Settings.
- Select the website.
- Choose Remove Website to deny permission while allowing a future request, or set the site's status to Block to prevent another permission request.
- Select Save Changes.

Protect Epic Games credentials
Epic Games warns users never to log in to external sites with Epic credentials, particularly when suspicious offers promise free titles or V-Bucks. Epic says genuine offers appear through the Epic Games Store or official Epic Games websites or social-media channels. See Epic Games Account Security.
